In the mean time, below, you will find the content of an email sent to the major herald of An Tir and Caid, and to Laurel.
We have had great response and some of the An Tiri are already making their plans. If you are a West Kingdom Voice Herald, are interested in Inter-kingdom anthropology, or just want to participate in on of the few Inter-kingdom events the West hosts, please seriously consider attending. Check this page periodically for updates.
Greetings one and all from The West Kingdom! After KWHSS, where we had such a good time, we here in The West were struck by how informative and fun the classes on voice heraldry were. We felt like we all had more to learn and offer each other.
Vesper had this idea, one which we think all would enjoy and find use. We are trying to flesh the idea out and see if there is interest, a West Coast (not Western necessarily) Voice Heraldry Collegium.
This would be a great chance for us to show each other best practices, share ideas and 'war stories', get outside perspectives and engage in some good old-fashioned Inter-Kingdom Anthropology. Of course for this to fly, we need interest and attendance by heralds from other kingdoms.
So down to the nuts and bolts:
What: A day of round-table discussions, practicum, exchange of ideas, and possibly lectures and strengthening inter-kingdom friendships /connections/ resources. This would, with any luck, be followed by a massive outing for dinner and party. Who knows who might get a little tipsy and fall upon whom? ;-)
When: This would be early March 2008, BEFORE our respective tourney seasons start. The whole point of this would be to take things home that we might want to implement in the areas of field, duty, and court heraldry. Our hope is the timing will give us all enough time to put new things into practice. We would expect folks to arrive on a Friday and depart on a Sunday.
Where: At this point, we are looking at something in the Sacramento , CA area. Sac'to has its own airport for those who would fly and is split by I-5 for those who prefer to drive, and yet, it is not as expensive or as much of a hassle to get into as San Francisco can be. This location is tentative based on interest, and participation. If there is more overwhelming interest from the north or the south of us, we will give thought to moving it closer to our visitors.
Why: Because Voice heraldry is sexy and where the real fun is to be had!
Who: YOU! Hopefully.
What we need from you at this point is to take this back to your folks: senior staff, branch heralds, any and everyone, mulls it over and see what kind of interest there is. If there seems to be a lot, please let me know. If there is not much, let me know that too. If things seem a little lukewarm, let me know what would pique your interest (and Participation) more. Also, we do not want this to be just our show, if you have something to present, a topic to mediate or something to demonstrate, please let me know and bring it.
Please feel free to contact me or with any question, comment, and certainly with any firm commitments of attendance. ;-)
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you believe will interested.
In service~
